I can't resist. And I hate to say this, but folks, this is being added to the "This is What's Wrong with America" list.
Seriously, a 72 day marriage? Would it have killed those two to stay engaged a little longer? Or maybe not made the decision to enter into what is supposed to be forever until they knew one another for a year, hell, even 6 months would have been better, right? Come on.
This is a classic example of getting what you want right now because you want it now and you can. In a phrase: instant gratification.
There are a lot of things I want right now. And there are a lot of things on my mental list of things I want that I probably could get or do right now, but I'm a responsible adult. Well, sometimes, but definitely where permanent, or what is supposed to be a permanent decision is concerned.
I really liked the Kardashians. They seemed, while crazy rich, obviously, still somewhat real. Bruce gets mad at the teenage girls for wearing too little clothing, Khole and Rob both struggle with weight, and Kris juggles her three crazy girls and their fighting daily. They seem to illustrate that no matter how much money you have, they are still people and still face everyday problems.
Well, not anymore. I don't like that simply because they can, they exploit the institution of marriage to gain a few sponsors for their future endeavors and another TV show, only to throw away the sanctity of marriage 72 days after they realize the mistake we all saw in the beginning.
Ok maybe it isn't fair to say it was only for money and TV, but even if it was about true love, why rush it? Why tell the world (and she was on display to world viewers and knew it) that you don't care enough about the relationship to make sure it will last before you vow to make it last, and then break that vow because (OMG) IT DIDN'T LAST?
I guess I'll go back to watching terrible VH1 reality shows since E! and the Kardashians are now off my DVR indefinitely.
xoxo Sara Marie
