Seriously. I said yesterday that Rick Perry wasn't one to start attacks, and boy was I wrong. He came prepared last night. He took that target on his back and threw it at everyone on the stage. Well, Romney really...or Mitt, as The Governor called him. Epic.
Overall I'll say this... Perry looked great. Did he stumble a few times? Sure. But this was his first Presidential debate EVER. It was Romney's 373rd. Ok now I'm exaggerating. You get the idea.
As for everyone else, let me see if I can even remember something they said to comment about.
Rick Santorum- The guy is not going to go quietly into the night. He won't make it through New Hampshire, but he won't shut up either. Look for him to kick and scream all the way out the door.
Newt Gingrich- The guy is sharp…Unelectable, but probably the smartest man on the stage in this group. He will make a great cabinet member.
Michelle Bachmann- I seriously think she took a sedative. She didn't scream into the microphone or throw her arms around in the air like usual. But then she also only answered maybe 4 questions in two hours, and even tried to get a comment in during a Romney/Perry exchange and got cut off by Brian Williams. She's done after Iowa, if not sooner.
Ron Paul- Still the angry grandpa. Still has idealistic ideas for that perfect Utopia he thinks he is capable of creating. Fortunately he's never polled over 10%...and never will.
Jon Huntsman- This guy had a few good things to say but looked stupid (in a shade a little less orange than Romney from tanning like Snookie) when he tried to jump in the Romney/Perry exchanges, and they all but ignored him. He reminds me of the school-yard-bully's sidekick…a sidekick that talks about China too much.
Herman Cain- Smart guy. Good ideas. But his 9-9-9 plan sounds like his pizza delivery number when he keeps saying it over and over again…not very presidential.
And then there's Romney and Perry. The next debate should probably just be called "The Romney/Perry Show." These two dominated almost all the questions and certainly all the banter among those on the stage. Perry was well equipped to highlight that he created more jobs in Texas in three months time than Romney did the entire time he was Governor. And Romney is just good at looking Presidential.
I see this fight going the distance. If I had to call it today I'd say Perry wins Iowa, Romney takes New Hampshire, Perry is back on top in South Carolina, and then its an all out battle for Florida. If Perry wins Florida by any margin seen as substantial, maybe Romney exits then, but again I think this fight could rage on through the later states and Super Tuesday, especially with big states like Texas being proportional states this cycle.
The next debate is Monday... we will see what "the others" (not Romney and Perry) try to do to be a part of the debate this time... I think that will be the thing to look for... until then....
xoxo Sara Marie
