Food, Drink, Repeat....

That's what New Orleans is, a constant cycle of eating, drinking, and eating, and drinking. Little red, Rosie rolled into town a little before dinner time on Friday. A lot was accomplished in the 40 hours spent in town, but I'm only going to share a few highlights--though there were many.

Friday at Rita's Tequila House was where the first real gem of the trip was found. And, I know, how can tequila taste any better in NOLA, than it does anywhere else? But that wasn't the highlight. The Loaded Yucca Fries were. Yep, Yucca. They came on a plate covered in queso, bacon, and a little sour cream. They were tougher than regular, soft french fries, but not as heavy afterwards. Delicious. I would love to order these regularly.

Yucca Fries. So yummmy!

Sometime that night after a few laps around Bourbon Street, it was off to one of the greatest dive bars in New Orleans, Jimani. Now my boyfriend and I discovered this random bar, two blocks south of Bourbon Street, when we were there back in March...It was extremely late one night, and the diner we wanted to grab a burger at was closed, so we asked a random local on the street where we could get food at that late hour. He didn't even respond in words at first, but rather pointed down the street eerily and said, 'It's called, Jimani."

141 Chartres Street

And Jimani is out of this world. It is a small, dark, crowded bar. We ordered burgers from "Catfish" the bartender, who you can read about on their Google reviews. Both times, in March and this weekend, we were served the most delicious burgers ever. I'm a regular Cheeseburger gal, but my boyfriend, he gets the Hangover Burger. It comes with a huge fried egg on top, and being the burger coinsurer that I am, I can honestly say, these are some of the best burgers I've ever tasted.

terrible picture, but devine burgers!

The following morning we headed over to Camellia Grill. Why? Because this is New Orleans people, and I told you at the beginning of this post, all you do is eat and drink and repeat!!

Best breakfast in NOLA.

At Camellia Grill, I'm a happy, happy girl. The seating is around two big counters. The waiters yell back your order to the chefs working the grills, and a few minutes later, HUGE portions of mouth-watering breakfast foods are served right up.

old school set up!

This particular time, Saturday morning, I ordered the Western Omelet (with egg whites and cheese) and my boyfriend got the Mexican Omelet. We sat and enjoyed our meal with Al and Glenda, who we met as we sat down. They have 2 boys in the military, and one more in high school back in Lake Charles, LA. And if you want to know anything else about Al and Glenda, let me know, I got the full story of their 28 years together.

Not the most refined presentation, but the taste more than makes up for that!

Happy Sara Marie!

After eating for the third time in less than 15 hours, strolling around the French Quarter was on the agenda. From body painting photography at CraigTracy Gallery to boutique shops, you can find the most original stuff in NOLA.

Including our hotel. This time it was the Andrew Jackson Hotel. Finding a little, local hotel is really the way to go in New Orleans. Last time HotelRoyal on Royal Street was fantastic! This weekend they were sold out, so I booked the Andrew Jackson. And it was excellent, though I will say, Hotel Royal is a little more modern and young.

Me just standing in the fountain in the courtyard of the Andrew Jackson Hotel.

Our last new food adventure was to Port of Call for burgers (again). This is a pretty serious tourist spot, so there was a wait. And it was worth it. Certainly not as good as Jimani, but close. Each burger is exploding with toppings from mushrooms and cheese (what I ordered) to standard lettuce, tomato, etc. And each burger is served with a baked potato, which is also covered in ample toppings. All in all a great meal, but don't buy into the Monsoon drinks that they are also know for. Unless of course you like incredibly sweet, fizzy drinks. In that case get to it because you'll love'em.

Located on Esplanade Avenue.

My messy, but good dinner.

Sunday morning was mellow and spent packing up and running back to Camellia for one final scrumptious meal. This time I went with a sausage omelet and my boyfriend tried their pecan pancakes. Both were winners (again).

So much reallly good food at Camellia!

And all of this was just some of the highlights. They don't include the array of interesting folks on Bourbon Street, the DJs that entertain at the Bourbon Street Blues Company, the 3 for 1 specials or the 320 bucks won at Laberge du Lac on the way home. But that is what's so great about a weekend get-a-way.... It gives you so much to daydream about all week.

Happy Monday!
